[Study Turkish Language] Yunus Emre Institute Beginner Turkish Class 1st~5th Lesson Review

Beginning in April of this year, I worked for roughly three months at a Turkish restaurant. I acquired a lot of Turkish while working with Turkish people and got quite interested in Turkish culture and language. It's also because I met a lot of kind Turkish folks. On the advice of a friend, I applied for an online Turkish language course hosted by 'Yunus Emre Institute' while I was experiencing the constraints of self-study.

Schedule

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., classes last two hours. As a way, I was able to attend lessons without problem, even after work. To begin, if you apply for a class using the Google form on the Yunus Emre website, you will get payment details through email and text message to the phone number you submitted in the Google form.

After paying the tuition, you will be invited to a Kakao Talk group chat room around a week later. When it's time for class, go to the group chat room and click on the link to the Zoom meeting room.

Because the course I applied for was a beginner course (A1) that began with the alphabet, I was able to apply straight away without worrying about my Turkish language abilities. On the Kakao group chat, any students were expected to be office professionals or have full-time careers.

Merhaba, Melda hocam! (Hello, teacher Melda!)

The fact that Yunus Emre's teacher is from Turkey is the most significant benefit of the basic class. Because the program is taught step by step in simple Turkish, even if you have no prior knowledge of the language, you will be able to complete the course with ease.

Furthermore, the lesson focuses on basic vocabulary and allows you to repeat the same word over and over. The lesson was structured in such a manner that students spoke when the teacher immediately displayed the object through webcam or presented the image via PowerPoint. I knew some fundamental vocabulary, so it wasn't too difficult, but if you've never studied Turkish before, repeating it once after class will be beneficial.

When attending a lecture, the students' participation determines the mood of the class. The majority of the students were in their twenties and thirties, and they all looked eager to learn. We occasionally asked each other questions and received guidance while studying together.

The only problem was technical

Despite the fact that this is not the first time a Turkish language online course has been organized, I was stunned to find many audio issues. It's most likely a technical issue with the teacher, but I believe the lesson will run much more smoothly if this issue is resolved. There was an unpleasant situation during the first lesson in which the zoom window had to be turned off and on every hour owing to a program malfunction. Fortunately, the application ran smoothly from the second lesson on, however classes were still stopped due to audio issues.

A chance to change your life

Each of the things have advantages and disadvantages, but when I review the lesson, I can conclude that there are more beneficial aspects. People who do not reside in Seoul and are unable to attend lessons directly at Yunus Emre, or who do not have enough time to attend classes due mainly to their job, benefited much from this lecture. I'm already excited to see how much my Turkish language abilities will improve after the course, which will be completed in approximately three weeks.
